Welcome to the Zulu Bird Centre
Our mission is to organize local schools and communities to start designing their back gardens into a birder-friendly patches whereby enabling birders to view birds and start generating income from the activity.
- Encourage birders to make use of the community local bird guides, community and school bird patches. Schools to receive donation from birders and school to consult Zulubird Centre for the advice on an effective use of the donation.
- Encourage and help schools and homes to start indigenous vegetable gardens.
- To work with local government & Birdlife to help assist and raise funds for ‘Birder-friendly signs’ to homesteads and schools as well its polices thereof.
- Provide suitable affordable accommodation for individual birders, couples as well as volunteers who are prepared to bring about ‘Change’ by playing a significant role in Birds and Wildlife conservation.
- Effectively create awareness and understanding of the value of, and threats to birdlife diversity.
- Conduct participatory workshops in rural areas communities and schools in areas of threatened biodiversity.
- Motivate community leaders and educators through active and participatory learning to take an active role in protecting birdlife.
- Promote the inclusion of birdlife conservation in the integrated development plans of local municipalities.
- Develop and implement community based biodiversity evaluation system to measure birdlife diversity conservation progress.
- To ensure that educators within IBAs areas are able to integrate biodiversity within all subjects.
- Establish partners with provincial conservation authorities and NGOs as to ensure effective biodiversity conservation within Kwazulu Natal.
